Cutler-Hammer later became part of Eaton’s electrical business, but many legacy AF and 9000 Series drives remain installed in existing equipment. As these systems age, replacement components, technical documentation, and direct replacements can become increasingly difficult to obtain.

The Repair Process

When a legacy Cutler-Hammer drive develops a problem, Control Concepts Dallas evaluates the drive and surrounding operating conditions to determine whether the issue originates within the drive or elsewhere in the application.

Our technicians inspect control boards, terminals, power connections, cooling components, and internal electronics while reviewing fault history, drive parameters, incoming power, connected motors, mechanical loads, and environmental conditions. Before applying power, we test the input and output power sections, back up existing parameters when possible, and monitor voltage, current draw, output frequency, and operating response during controlled power-up.

After repairs are completed, the drive is functionally tested to verify proper operation. When repairing the existing unit is no longer practical, we can help evaluate replacement, retrofit, or modernization options for the surrounding motor-control system.

Most drive failures can be avoided through preventative maintenance.
